Photographing Your Artwork

Are you planning on entering your artwork into a competition? Then you'll want to make sure you take the best possible photograph of your art! Here are my top tips for photographing your artwork:

Step 1: Find a bright spot with natural daylight to photograph your artwork. Avoid direct sunlight and any shadows that might be cast on your art.

Step 2: Place your artwork on a flat surface with a plain background. You don't want anything distracting in your photograph.

Step 3: Check that your camera's lens is clean. You don't want any smudges or dirt affecting your photo.

Step 4: Turn off the flash! It can wash out your photograph and isn't usually necessary.

Step 5: Photograph your artwork straight on and avoid using the zoom. Instead, move closer to your artwork to get the best shot.

Step 6: Fill most of the screen with your artwork. You want your artwork to be the focus of the photograph.

Step 7: Make sure your artwork is in focus. This is super important! Use your camera's focus feature or tap the screen on your phone or tablet to focus on your art.

Step 8: Hold your camera steady and take your photograph. Try to get the photo looking as accurate as possible using your camera, rather than relying on editing.
